I am not going to tell you stories about how I went hungry when I was a kid. I didn’t, and I am going to assume that most of the people who read my blog didn’t either. But that doesn’t mean that hunger in America doesn’t exist. We are the richest country on earth and give more to charity than anyone else on the planet. And that is an unqualified good thing, of which we can be proud. In difficult times it is even more important to think about those who are less fortunate than we are. But don’t just think…do something.
The Community Food Bank of New Jersey is a convenient way to help. And helping doesn’t necessarily mean writing a check. It has many ways to help your fellow Americans, including donating food, clothing, your time, etc. But writing checks is good, too.
So send them some money, drop off some extra food and clothing, and maybe spend a few hours doing something besides sitting in front of your computer reading food porn. They schedule their volunteers for two hours each visit. Two hours. That’s really not much time. We spend more than that deciding what to eat. Maybe we can spend some of that time to help our less fortunate folks eat!

Thanks so much for participating. Great post. Isn’t the formatting a pain in the you know what. Blogger is really a pain this morning too.
Glad to see you supporting this effort, IANAC…a couple of weeks ago my co-workers were starting to talk about what we should get for our boss, who (trust me) doesn’t need a THING. I suggested a donation to the Comm Food Bank and they loved the idea. The Springsteen ad is what put it in my brain, so kudos to them and him for that campaign! It’s about time we stopped giving each other unnecessary THINGS when there are so many people right in our backyards who don’t have the basics.
