Stadium Food

The bad news is that The Yankees lost. The badder news is that the drinks, in the only publicly accessible bar in the stadium, are so outrageously expensive, for stunningly minuscule portions — in plastic cups — that it was laughable. But the worst news will have to wait for another game and another stadium. The food was actually edible. Not inexpensive, but not bad. Chicken fingers that were actually tender and juicy, a burger that had some real live charcoal grilled flavor, and a stadium hot dog that had a bit of crunch and a pretty good bun. The pizza looked like a cut above the industrial crap that is delivered across the world. I didn’t get to taste any because I was busy watching the Yankees play baseball like it was just another day at the office. It’s going to be a long summer.

  1. are they using hardwood charcoal at yankee stadium? if not, how do you explain that flavor you’re referring to?

  2. No, it was probably a gas grill, but it had a grilled flavor. I should have written “grilled.” But, I corrected it!

What is the world coming to when people actually read my blog and find my flawed language?

  3. It was just fresh on my mind as someone recently on Roadfood was going on about the “char-broiled flavor” of the burgers at the Iron Horse in Westwood. I really don’t know what people mean when they say that so I asked. I got a very confusing answer, leading me to believe he really didn’t know what he was talking about. At the end of the day I’m pretty sure the guy meant “grilled”, though, and uses “char-broiled” as a fancy way of saying it. You also mean grilled, vs. griddled, I assume. Any other flavor that is detected is likely not from the meat or the cooking process, but rather from other ingredients that shouldn’t be in your food to begin with.

  4. You make a good point. “Grilled” is essentially the generic term for cooked directly over some kind of fire. And the Iron Horse is stunningly overrated. Who started the ridiculous rumor that they make great burgers?

As for the other ingredients? I thought you swore by Liquid Smoke!
